WILMINGTON — Patricia “Pat” Sneeden, 85, of Lexington, NC, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on October 16, 1939, in Brunswick County, NC, to Dennis Franklin and Lela Benton, Pat lived a life as colorful, feisty, and unforgettable as she was.
Pat was known best for her cheeky sense of humor and her unapologetic personality. She never hesitated to tell you exactly what she thought—and somehow, that honesty was one of the things we loved most about her. Fiercely devoted to her family, Pat adored her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was happiest when surrounded by the chaos of family gatherings (especially when her famous carrot cake was on the table, sparking the usual friendly fights over the last slice).
A longtime library worker in Pender County, Pat touched countless lives through her dedication to fostering a love of books and learning. She was also an active and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served others with quiet strength and compassion.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Julian Glenn Sneeden; her daughter, Rita Talbert; and her first husband, James Joyner.
Pat is survived by her daughter Kathy (Wendell) Shoaf, of Lexington, NC; her son Jay (Vicky) Joyner of Wilmington, NC; her grandchildren Frankie Shoaf, Brandy Child, Tiffany Griffin, Amber Hooks, Malissa Blalock, and Markie Talbert; and her beloved great-grandchildren Steven, Jenna, Michelle, Brandon, Jalyn, Alyssa, Kaylee, Adam, Gage, Wesley, Colton, William, and Ivy.
Pat’s selflessness, compassion, and humor left a deep, lasting impact on all who knew her. She leaves behind a family and community who will miss her fiercely, yet carry her spirit with them forever.
