WILMINGTON — It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Brent Morgan McIntyre on June 3, 2025, at the age of 51. Born on February 1, 1974, in Columbus, OH, to Bryan F. and Annette McIntyre. Brent was a loving husband, proud father, and loyal son.
Brent graduated from Millbrook High School in Raleigh, NC in 1992. He had a great network of lifelong friends that he continued to keep up with throughout his life. He graduated from East Carolina University in 1998 with a BS in Applied Economics and is where he met and fell in love with Marykent. They were friends for 3 years before Halloween 1996 when their relationship turned into romance. He worked at Quintiles Transnational in Raleigh before moving to Wilmington in 2002 to work for Pharmatech Solutions, Inclinix, PMG Research, and eventually nCino. He was a trusted employee and very proud of all the work he did for each of the companies he worked for over the years.
Brent was a huge ECU fan, mostly football, which he had season tickets from his graduation until the 2024 season. Every Saturday from the season opener in August until the Friday after Thanksgiving was dedicated to watching the Pirates play. He was an avid gun enthusiast who loved target practice, building and assembling guns, and talking about guns. Brent also had a passion for his fish tanks. Over the years, he had freshwater tanks, reef tanks, and enjoyed showing off his tank to anyone who came by the house. He also spent time modifying and taking care of cars, mostly Subarus. His greatest passion was music, playing the drums, and listening to the artists he enjoyed because of the technicality and talent they possessed.
Brent is survived by his father, Bryan F. McIntyre (Margaret), his wife, Marykent Copley McIntyre, since June 17, 2000, son Bryan Kenneth McIntyre (18), and daughter Karen Annette McIntyre (16). He was preceded in death by his mother, Annette Morgan McIntyre.
The family would like to give special thanks to Brent’s Aunt Beckey, for opening her home to him and Marykent to stay during the five months he fought his battle with cancer, and his cousin Claire McIntyre, who was able to facilitate his admission into The James Cancer Center to get Brent the excellent care, surgery, and treatment, and to his surgeon, Dr. Matthew Old, who continued to check on Brent and work with the other doctors long after the surgery on January 6th was complete and his wounds had healed.
A celebration of life will be held on June 28, 2025, at the Fort Fisher Aquarium from 1:00- 3:00, with reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Debra.org, Nourish NC, or a charity of your choice in Brent’s memory.
Brent’s memory will live on through his loyalty to those he loved, his ability to never know a stranger, and family and friends who will hold him forever in their hearts.
