Eudie “EC” Carrie Herring, Jr., 87

Eudie “EC” Carrie Herring, Jr. (Quinn McGowen Funeral Home)

WILMINGTON — Eudie Carrie “EC” Herring, Jr., 87, passed peacefully on Sunday, June 1, 2025.

He was born May 21, 1938 in Sampson County, the son of Eudie Carrie Herring, Sr. and Betty Balkcum Herring. In addition to his parents EC was preceded in death by his sister, Bernice Rowe.

EC is survived by his nieces, Tina St. Pierre and Gina Hesse; nephews, David Rowe, Doug Rowe, and John Rowe; numerous great nieces and nephews; many extended family and good friends.

EC was retired from General Electric Company in Castle Hayne after working many years in the maintenance department. He was an excellent mechanic and could fix most anything.

To know EC was to love him. A true original with a heart full of mischief and love, known for his quick wit, infectious sense of humor, and knack for making everyone around him laugh. Whether he was lovingly picking on someone, pulling a prank, or delivering one of his classic one-liners like, “I’ve been better but it cost more,” EC brought light and joy wherever he went. He found peace in the simple things—gardening, working with his hands, and spending time with those he loved most.

He cared deeply for his family, taking excellent care of his mother until her passing. He also shared a very special and close bond with his sister Bernice and enjoyed spending time with and spoiling his nieces and nephews. A proud jokester, he loved taking us to the Dairy Queen and turning the car’s A/C to full blast on the ride home just to watch us shiver and laugh all the way home while our ice cream melted. Family reunions in Sampson County meant learning to drive at age 10 on the back roads “up the country”. Hanging out with EC was always fun!

He was more than an Uncle. He was a loving contributor to some of our happiest memories.

Shared memories and condolences may be sent to the family here.
