WILMINGTON — Joseph “Neal” O. Maultsby, 80, of Wilmington, NC, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 16, 2025, in the early morning hours. After battling a short illness, he was transferred to in-patient hospice care at Novant New Hanover Regional Medical Center. He was surrounded by family at his bedside.
He was the son of the late Edward White Maultsby, Sr., and Ida Mae Beck Maultsby. He was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas F. Maultsby.
Neal proudly served in the United States Army with honorable discharge. He spent his service time in stateside and in France. Neal was a faithful, long time member of Winter Park Presbyterian Church. He was also a Mason and long time member of Orient Lodge #395. Neal retired from Duke Energy, previously Carolina Power and Light. Neal was a humble man with a giving heart and was known to help anyone who was in need.
Neal is survived by his beloved wife, Pauline of 46 years and his two loving children, Sandra and Debbie (Gary), and a precious granddaughter, Annaleigh. In addition, he is survived by one brother, Edward White Maultsby, Jr. (Nellie), a sister-in-law Cheryl Maultsby, and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at 2:00 in the afternoon, at Oleander Memorial Gardens. The Reverend P. Emile Harley will be officiating. Pallbearers will be Gary Bullard, Frank Bullard, Tim Boyd, Jim O’Daniell, Peter Gruodis, and Harry Taylor.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Winter Park Presbyterian Church, Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Center, or your favorite charity.
The family will greet friends and family, at the cemetery, following the service.
