Betty Ann (Pennington) Nicholls, 90

Betty Ann (Pennington) Nicholls (Wilmington Funeral & Cremation)

OAK ISLAND — Betty Ann (Pennington) Nicholls left this world to be reunited with her beloved Bill on May 7, 2025.

Betty was born to John Elmer and Vera Juanita Pennington on March 7, 1935, in Annapolis, Maryland.

She was predeceased in death by her mother and father and her sisters Marie Cary, Earnestine Hindman, Violet Early, Marion Schlachter, Thelma Laird and her brothers Calvin Pennington, Wesley Pennington and Norman Pennington. Her beloved Bill (William H. Nicholls, Jr.) passed away March 24, 2010.

She is survived by her children John Scott Nicholls (Karen), Sheila Nicholls Crider (John) and her grandchildren Tiffany Nicholls Hirsch (Matt), Andrew Lamont (Ashley), Elizabeth Lamont Berry (Cody), Austin Nicholls and great grandsons Greyson Thomas Hirsch and Levi Scott Hirsch.

Betty and Bill were married July 2, 1954, at the United States Naval Academy Chapel and she became a Navy wife.

Betty did not want all the clubs she belonged to to be listed or the jobs she held as her family and friends know that information. Betty wants to be remembered for being a great wife, great mother, great grandmother, great great grandmother and a good friend. She was extremely proud of her family and what they had accomplished in their lives and nothing made her happier than to be with them, and she did carry a badge of proudness and the right to brag!

She wants each of you to think of her and smile, no tears, and remember her because she lived. So smile and go on. Just remember I loved you all.

A service of remembrance will be held at Ocean View United Methodist Church, 8400 Oak Island Dr, Oak Island, NC 28465 on June 21, 2025, at noon with a reception to follow.

Betty will be inurned with her beloved Bill at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis Maryland at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to your favorite charity, or the American Diabetes Association.
