WILMINGTON — Anne M. O’Sullivan died May 7, 2025 in Wilmington, NC.

She was born on June 19, 1946, the daughter of the late James and Abigail (Devane) Hyland.

She was preceded in death by her husband Kevin J. O’Sullivan, stepdaughter Devon Knutsen, stepson Kerry O’Sullivan, daughter-in-law Kathi O’Sullivan, stepdaughter Noreen Morell, and son-in-law Jerry Morell.

Mrs. O’Sullivan was a graduate of Aquinas High School in Bronx, NY and Hunter College, class of 1968. She held a Master of Science degree from Lehman College, City University of New York. She spent her professional career as a teacher of special education for the New York City Board of Education. In retirement, she turned her attention to her many grandchildren. She was a faithful member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church since moving to Wilmington 29 years ago.

Mrs. O’Sullivan was a fantastic cook, who delighted in cooking for her friends and family. She repeatedly received requests for her amazing cheesecake. She was a golfer and a bridge player, who loved spending time with her friends. She was an avid reader, a lover of trivia games, and the reigning team captain of the family championship charades team.

She is survived by her son George Sutton and wife Kristi of Wake Forest, NC, stepdaughter Gael O’Sullivan of Bethesda, MD, stepdaughter Erin O’Sullivan-Jennings and husband Reverend Mark Jennings of Augusta, MI. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren: John Ryan Knutsen and his wife Jessica, Kevin Knutsen and his wife Jessie, Kara Knutsen, Kyle Knutsen, Sean O’Sullivan, Alison O’Sullivan, Coleen O’Sullivan, Kerry Joseph (KJ) O’Sullivan, Sean Johnson, Shannon Johnson, Thomas Morell and his wife Hannah, Brian Morell, Kathryn (Katie) Grasmeyer and her husband Matt, Kelly Morell and her husband Zeb, Brandon Jennings and his wife Shelby, Brianne (Annie) Ferreira and her wife Stacey, Kendall Jennings, Matthew Sutton, and Timothy Sutton. Mrs. O’Sullivan is also survived by seven great-grandchildren.

A funeral mass will be held at 9:00am Friday, May 16th, 2025, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church conducted by Reverend John McGee.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 15th, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial contributions be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 6650 Carolina Beach Road, Wilmington, NC, 28412.
