WILMINGTON — Juan (“Jan”) Marlene Toney Kirk (Nana) 66, was called to her heavenly home on April 20th, 2025 surrounded by family and those who loved and admired her dearly.

Jan was born in Oak Hill, West Virginia on September 20th, 1958 and was the daughter of the late Charles Hayden Toney and the late Dana Wilma Toney.

Jan was the embodiment of a loving and caring mother, homemaker, and hard worker throughout her life. She deeply enjoyed her time as a well known and loved hostess of Cracker Barrel and later a hostess at the Greenbrier Resort in West Virginia.

In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her sister, Shelvy Jean Wiley, and her three brothers Fred Toney, Sam Toney, and Bill Toney.

Those left to cherish her memory include: her son Noah James Kirk and his wife Nichoel of Columbus, OH; her daughter Jamie Lynn Wilshire and her partner Lauren of Wilmington, NC; her six grandchildren, Aidan, Case, and Easton Wilshire of Wilmington, NC, and Emilia, Ezra, and Ezekiel Kirk of Columbus, OH; her two sisters Wilda (George) Hall and her husband Steve of Paintsville, KY, and Charlotte Ann Williams and her husband Dorsey of Oak Hill, WV; her three brothers, Preston Ashley (Barlow) Toney and his wife Malinda of Oak Hill, WV, Charles Albert Toney and his wife Dawn of Mebane, NC, and Wilbur Mart (Marty) Toney of Beckley, WV; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends.

Jan embodied remarkable strength until her very last moments on earth. A true warrior, she battled and defeated ovarian cancer in her 40s, and when more cancer was discovered in 2017, she once again fought courageously and fiercely until the very end. She will forever be remembered for her unwavering strength and resilience throughout her remarkable and impactful life.

A sincere and heartfelt thank you to Lower Cape Fear Hospice and close family friend Marissa Whitehurst for their compassionate and comforting care in Jan’s final days.
