Richard “Dick” Anthony Goodwin, 94

Richard “Dick” Anthony Goodwin (Andrews Mortuary and Crematory)

WILMINGTON — Richard Anthony Goodwin, age 94, passed away peacefully on April 6th surrounded by his loving family. Richard, better known as “Dick,” was a deeply devoted husband and married to the love of his life, Juanita Stallings Goodwin, for almost 70 years.

Dick was a wonderful father, grandfather (“Papa”), great-grandfather, uncle and friend to many. Dick is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Lewis Goodwin Sr. and Alice Oliver Goodwin; siblings, Al Goodwin, Bob Goodwin, Ruth (Goodwin) Wilson and Dot (Goodwin) Woods.

Dick is survived by his wife, Juanita Stallings Goodwin; son, Art Goodwin (Sandie); daughters, Jan Goodwin Sarvis (Ken) and Dee Goodwin Luckman (Tony); grandchildren, Amanda Goodwin Link (Townsend), Ethan Goodwin, Jordan Kavanaugh Ramsey (Nathan) and Breck Luckman; great grandchildren; Peyton Link, Addi Link and Ryan Ramsey.

Dick was born in Greensboro, NC and raised in Raleigh, NC where he graduated high school from Sacred Heart Cathedral School. Dick was a veteran of the United States Navy and a 1958 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Shortly after graduation, Dick moved his family to Wilmington where he pursued his profession as a CPA. His partnership with Lance Smith and in later years, Betty Page, resulted in the successful firms, Smith and Goodwin CPAs and Goodwin and Page CPAs. Dick had a strong passion for all sports. Along with golf, he played racquetball, jogged and was a member of a bowling league. Dick could always be found watching a ball game on TV, reading a book, putting together a puzzle, or feeding the birds and squirrels.

Dick gave back to his community by volunteering at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where he was a member for over 50 years; the Wilmington Jaycees, where he helped to the bring the first county fair to New Hanover County; Wilmington Chamber of Commerce and Winter Park Optimist, where he coached little league baseball for many years. Dick also served as a volunteer at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Dick was a long-time member of Pine Valley Country Club where he loved to play golf.

Dick’s love for God and his family were immeasurable and the bond with his wife Juanita was more than special. He will be dearly missed by all his family and friends.
