WILMINGTON — It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Ressie Ruth Martin, who departed this life on March 3, 2025, at the age of 68. Born on January 6, 1957, in Fair Bluff, North Carolina, she was a cherished daughter of the late James Davis and Eva (nee Baldwin) Martin. Ressie breathed her last in Wilmington, North Carolina, where she had resided in recent years.
Ressie spent her early years immersed in the vibrant rural community of Fair Bluff, embracing the hard-working ethos of her family as a farm hand. Despite the demanding conditions leading to physical disability, she maintained an unbreakable spirit and an enduring love for life.
In her youth, Ressie found joy on the softball field, playing shortstop with vigor and passion. Music was a constant companion throughout her life, bringing happiness and solace during all seasons. Her fondness for seafood was well-known among family and friends, often relishing the flavors of the coast.
Preceded in death by her beloved parents, Ressie leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory. She is survived by her devoted sister, Lutricia Thames; niece Shelletter Jacobs; and four nephews. Her special aunt, Rachell Taylor, and uncle, Paul Baldwin, held a dear place in her heart. Cousins Sherland McDuffie and Linda Lee, along with numerous friends, will miss her warmth and companionship.
Services to honor Ressie’s life are pending at this time, with arrangements entrusted to Wilmington Funeral and Cremation.
The family appreciates the outpouring of love and support during this difficult period as they prepare to celebrate the life of a remarkable woman whose legacy of kindness and resilience will endure.
