WILMINGTON — James Edward “Eddie” Evans, aged 71, of Wilmington, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2025. He was born on April 22, 1953, in Toccoa, Georgia, to the late Charles Edward Evans and Annie Ruth Hunter Evans.
Eddie honorably served his country, retiring from the United States Army with distinction as a Career Counselor, achieving the rank of Sergeant First Class. His dedication to service and his community extended beyond his military career, as he was an active member of numerous organizations. He faithfully attended 828 Church in Wilmington. Eddie was a respected member and Past Master of Toccoa Lodge # 309 A.F. & A.M. in Toccoa, Georgia. He was a member of Wilmington Lodge # 319 A.F.& A.M., the Sudan Shrine in New Bern, NC, the Yaarab Shrine in Atlanta, GA, the Wilmington Shrine Club, and the Shriners Choo Choo parade unit. Additionally, Eddie was a member of the BPOE Elks Club in Wilmington.
Eddie is survived by his devoted wife of 13 years, Gail Adams-Evans; his beloved children, Charles Edward Evans, David Wesley Evans, Samantha Zaboroskie and husband Eddie, Casandra Murray, and Carissa Stone and husband Zach; his sister, Gloria Caudell and husband Randy; and his grandson, Leo Zaboroskie. Eddie also leaves behind his dear family pets:” Alex, Bagheera, Oscar, and George”.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at the visitation, which will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at Wilmington Funeral Chapel.
James Edward “Eddie” Evans will be remembered for his unwavering service, his commitment to his community, and the love he shared with his family and friends. May he rest in eternal peace.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his name may be directed to Shriners Hospitals for Children through Sudan Shriners.
