WILMINGTON — Mable Thompson Cooke, 98, of Wilmington, NC, died Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice.

Mable was born September 3, 1926 in Johnston County, NC. She was the daughter of the late Mable Phillips Thompson and Walter Thompson. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Albert Roland Cooke and son, Albert Roland Cooke, Jr., sisters and brothers, Repsie Johnson, Callie Watkins, Edith Thompson, Leatha Puckett, Ethel Casio, J.W. Thompson and Cooper Thompson. She is survived by her son, Travis Cooke and wife Pam of Wilmington, daughter in law, Daphne Hill of Pittsboro. She is also survived by two grandchildren and two great grandchildren: Garrison Cooke of Wilmington, Meredith Cooke Fitch and husband David with daughter Virginia and son Lee of Chapel Hill. Mable is also survived by many special nieces and nephews.

Mable was a long-time member of First Christian Church, serving in many capacities, and the Hanover Seaside Club. An avid bridge player and gardener, Mable loved traveling and being with her family.

The Cooke Family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to Mable’s niece, Doctor Bonnie Fanelli for her tender loving care over the many years. The family is also grateful for the love and compassionate care shown to her at Morningside of Wilmington.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 7, 2025, visiting 1-2 pm followed by the funeral service at 2:00 PM at First Christian Church, 2035 Oleander Drive. Interment at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Wilmington.

At the family’s request, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Fitch Pediatric Rehab at UNC Children’s Hospital, 123 West Franklin Street, Suite 510, Chapel Hill, NC 27516 or to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, where Mable lovingly volunteered for many years.
