WILMINGTON — Emily Teresa Conmy passed away on February 28, 2025 having spent her final days surrounded by her family.
She was born on July 1, 1935 in the Village of Woodford in County Galway, Ireland to the late Patrick Murray and Bridget Murray (nee Broderick). She emigrated from Ireland to the United States at the age of 20, where she settled in New York City and met and married her husband, James Conmy. She was married to him for 42 years before his passing on July 13, 2003.
She leaves behind two children, Rose Renner and Francis Conmy, two granddaughters, Amy Renner and Stephanie Renner, her sisters Mary Conroy, Rose Keon and Bridie Dowd, and her brothers Vincent (“Vinnie”) Murray and Matthew (“Mattie”) Murray.
She was predeceased by her brother, Denis (“Denny”) Murray, on July 6, 2008.
She began working for NYTel shortly after arriving to the U.S. and enjoyed a lengthy career with them that spanned more than 35 years. She adored her family and enjoyed nothing more than having everyone gather around the dining table to enjoy her great cooking, conversation and laughter. But these gatherings weren’t just for family — her home cooked meals were legendary and allowed her to share a special “Nana” relationship with so many of her granddaughters’ friends.
She was happiest when she was in motion and was up for anything, from tackling a home improvement project to helping her granddaughter train for a half marathon. Gardening also brought her great joy and you’d find her every spring at the garden center picking out her petunias and marigolds. She was an avid reader, spending evenings curled up with a good book and a cup of tea. Though a woman of many talents, her unwavering faith, wisdom, and beautiful heart are what really defined her and shaped the lives of those around her.
Visiting will be held 12 – 1 pm followed by the funeral service at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at Andrews Mortuary, 1617 Market Street, Wilmington.
Please leave condolences for the family here.
