Louise I. Hebert, 88

Louise I. Hebert (Wilmington Funeral & Cremation)

WILMINGTON — Louise I. Hebert (née Fischer), cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2025, in Wilmington, North Carolina, at the age of 88. Born on July 24, 1936, in Cincinnati, Ohio, she was the beloved daughter of Joseph A. and Dorothy R. Fischer.

Louise graduated from North College Hill High School in 1954 and pursued further education at Miller-Motte College, where she earned her associate degree. On May 11, 1957, she married the love of her life, John Roger Hebert, at St. Margaret Mary Church. Together, they built a beautiful family and shared a lifetime of adventures.

A devoted homemaker for most of her life, Louise exemplified grace and warmth. In her later years, she took on various jobs, always approaching new opportunities with enthusiasm and dedication. Her adventurous spirit led her to travel extensively with her husband and young family. She lived in Switzerland and Belgium and explored much of Europe, as well as Australia, New Zealand, and Asia.

Louise was an active member of her community and faith. As a member of Immaculate Conception Church, she welcomed parishioners with kindness as a greeter. She also supported the New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

Her interests included joyous luncheons with friends and spirited games of Bingo, cards, and Dominos—a game at which she excelled. Her laughter and competitive spirit were infectious and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Louise was preceded in death by her loving husband, John Roger Hebert; her parents, Joseph A. and Dorothy R. Fischer; her brothers, Jerry Fischer and Donald Fischer; and her sister-in-law, Lee Fischer.

She is survived by her children: Greg Hebert and his wife Theresa, Susan Magee and her husband Peter, Lynn Hebert-Smith, and John Hebert. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Travis Smith and his wife Mallory, Allyson Magee, Ashley Magee, Madalynn Hebert, and Majestic Hebert; as well as her great-grandchildren, Grady Smith and Sutton Smith. She also leaves behind her dear sister, Marilyn Zeller, and her brother, Richard Fischer, and his wife Wanda.

A Mass in celebration of Louise’s life will be held at Immaculate Conception Church, located at 6650 Carolina Beach Rd, Wilmington, NC 28412, on Friday, March 7, 2025, at 9:00 AM. Louise’s enduring faith and love will continue to inspire and guide her family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorial contributions to be made to the American Kidney FundLower Cape Fear Lifecare Hospice, or the Wounded Warrior Project in Louise’s memory.

She will be remembered fondly for her generous heart, adventurous spirit, and unwavering devotion to her family and faith. May she rest in eternal peace.
