LELAND — Joseph F. Blasi, Sr., 84, of Leland, passed away Thursday, February 20, 2025.
He was born on January 8, 1941, in Poughkeepsie, NY, to the late Joseph R. Blasi and Delia Van Etten Blasi.
Joe was for the NY Telephone Co. for 40 years until he retired. He sold his home in 2015 to move to Leland, NC, to be close to his son, where 10 years later, he lost his battle with cancer.
He was a man who loved to work and help his friends and family. He could do anything from wiring houses to putting in a boiler system or boiling a pool cabana with 200-year-old barn rafters. Any building, rebuilding or refurbishing that needed to be done, he could do. He loved his children and would help them and their families however he could. His passion was fishing. He owned a few boats over the years and he and his best friend, Don Paradise fished all the upstate NY lakes and rivers. He grew up Catholic but became a born-again believer in Jesus Christ and the bible and enjoyed reading God’s word and watching his gospel videos.
Survivors include his son, Joseph F. Blasi, Jr. and his wife Eirleen; daughter, Jill Germano and her husband Tony; nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 2pm, Thursday, February 27, at Oakdale Cemetery, 520 N. 15th Street, Wilmington, NC 28401.
