Nancy White Benedict, 89

Nancy White Benedict (Wilmington Funeral & Cremation)

WILMINGTON — Nancy White Benedict, age 89, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2025, in Wilmington, North Carolina after a long illness. She lived a full and active life caring for others.

Born in Concord, North Carolina, Nancy was married for nearly 60 years to her loving husband George. After an early career as a nurse, she moved to Wrightsville Beach to start her family. After 38 years of beach life, she and her husband retired to Ogden.

Nancy was active in the church and community throughout her life. She worshipped at St. Andrews on the Sound and was member of the Altar Guild. She also owned the Leisure Time cross-stitch store and worked at other stores in the area.

Nancy had a passion for meeting and helping others, gardening, exercise, cross-stitch, and Christmas. She often said her favorite word was “move.”

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis White and Lena Klutz White, her husband, George Elliott Benedict, III, and her sister, Mary Jane Marshbanks. She leaves behind a loving family who will carry on her legacy: two sons, George Elliott Benedict, IV of Apex, North Carolina, and Gregory Keith Benedict and his wife, Tamera of Long Beach, California; two sisters, Bobbie Furr of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Betty Krizek of Durham, North Carolina; and her grandchildren, James Benedict and Charlie Benedict.

A celebration of Nancy’s life will be held at St. Andrews-on-the-Sound Episcopal Church at 11:00 AM on Friday February 21, 2025.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes memorial contributions to Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center or St. Andrews-on-the-Sound Episcopal Church, or to the charity of your choice.
