WILMINGTON — James Rufus King, Jr., “Bo”, a cherished father, grandfather, and friend to many, peacefully passed away on Wednesday February 12, 2025, surrounded by his loving family in his hometown of Wilmington, North Carolina. Born on November 14, 1946, he lived a remarkable life of 78 years.
Bo dedicated 41 years of his life to the ceramic tile business, retiring in 2002. His hard work and commitment to his trade left a lasting impact on all who knew him, reflecting his dedication and integrity. He found immense joy in fishing, a passion that not only fulfilled his soul but also fostered meaningful friendships and unforgettable memories. Known affectionately as “Coach” by the many young athletes he mentored at the Winter Park Optimist Club, Bo imparted lessons of teamwork and perseverance both on and off the field. His legacy as a coach will forever be etched in the hearts of those he guided and inspired. Later in life, Bo found true happiness revolved around his beloved grandchildren, whose lives he influenced with love and wisdom.
A proud veteran of the United States Army, Bo exemplified the values of honor and service throughout his life. He now joins his beloved wife of almost 50 years, Carolyn J. King; his parents, James King, Sr. and Frances Faulk King; and his sister Betty King Stewart in eternal rest.
Bo is survived by his children, Serena Bell (Ervin) and James King, III (Keri); his sisters, Priscilla Criswell and Brinda King; his cherished grandchildren, Gabrielle Goodson (Landin), Landen Goodson (Kelsie), Logan Goodson (Abby), Brooke King, Jody Norris, II (Lauren), and Jacob Norris; as well as many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends.
A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, February 17, 2025, at Wilmington Funeral and Cremation, located at 1535 South 41st Street. Pastors Mike Morley and Rob Strickland will officiate the ceremony. Following the service, Bo will be laid to rest at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 5 to 7 PM on Sunday, February 16, 2025 at the funeral home. The family will also welcome guests at the home of James Rufus King, Jr. at other times.
Honoring James as pallbearers will be his grandsons Landen Goodson, Logan Goodson, Jody Norris, Jacob Norris, alongside Sonny Jones and Landin Boykin.
