WILMINGTON — It is with sad hearts that we announce that Delores Pridgen McHaney age 87, of Wilmington, NC passed away February 10, 2025. Delores was born in Wilmington on September 27, 1937, and remained a lifelong resident.
Delores was preceded in death by her parents James and Winifred Pridgen, sister Shirley Clemmons, and brother James Pridgen.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 64 years Darrell McHaney of Wilmington, her loving daughter Lynne McHaney and devoted partner, Clint Bowen of Raleigh, her dear sister Patricia Griffin of Asheboro and a host of treasured nieces and nephews.
Delores spent her career working as a medical secretary for Dr. Thomas Marshburn and at New Hanover Hospital South Eastern Area Health Education Center (SEAHEC) where her work ethic was beyond reproach. She finally retired in 2014.
As a member of First Christian Church for 60 years Delores loved her church family and was very active in the life of the church. She was a devoted wife, mother, aunt and friend to whomever she met. While we grieve her passing, we take comfort in knowing she has been welcomed into her eternal home. Her legacy of love and faith will continue to shine in the lives of those she touched.
A funeral service will be held at a very soon announced date and time at First Christian Church, 2035 Oleander Drive, Wilmington, with Rev. Brad McDowell officiating. The interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to First Christian Church.
