LELAND — Patricia Ann (Hogan) Helms, age 85, passed away on February 8, 2025 in Leland, North Carolina.
Pat, or “Mawmaw” as she was known by friends and family, was born on March 5, 1939 in Dublin, Georgia to Roscoe Calhoun Hogan and Mary Belcher Hogan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert Williamson Helms , sons Terry Allen Helms, Robert Williamson Helms, Jr., and Jerry Franklin Helms, a daughter Judy Elaine Helms, two sisters Nona Jo Fennell and twin sister Mary Sue Wells.
Pat is survived by her Sister, Rita Hogan Mullis and husband Wayne of Dexter, Georgia; Children Patrick Eugene Perkins and Sandra of Summerville, North Carolina, Terrie Perkins Holden and Wayne of Leland, North Carolina, Rebecca Calhoun Helms of Leland, North Carolina, Carrie Helms Johnson and Tim of De Queen, Arkansas and Jean Helms Cason of Leland, North Carolina; Grandchildren Christen Holden Wilkens and JR of Delco, North Carolina ( and beloved great-grandchildren Cheyenne, Layla, and Grant Wilkens) Michelle Holden Johnston and Jeff of Leland, North Carolina ( and beloved great-grandchildren Jarrett and Harper), Shawn Duncan of Dublin, Georgia (and beloved great-grandchildren Aiden, Kaidence and Abel) , Lee Duncan and Sadryne of Whiteville, North Carolina, Jesse Perkins of Wilmington, North Carolina, James Merrifield of Wilmington, North Carolina, Mark Helms and Donna, of Leland, North Carolina, Amy Logan of Canton, North Carolina, Tony Johnson of Dequeen, Arkansas, Jerry Johnson of Dequeen, Arkansas, Johnny Ray Helms of Jacksonville, Florida, Nakoma Helms of Lumberton, North Carolina, Matthew Helms of Cummings, Georgia, and Bryan Hogsed of Lancaster, South Carolina; including 24 great grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Pat retired from Dupont in the mid-80s and then operated the country store for many years on the corner of Cedar Hill Road and Mount Misery Road in Leland, North Carolina with her husband. Pat continued to work for many years as a CNA in the public and private sector. She enjoyed sewing and gardening, and in her younger years she loved camping anywhere from South Carolina to Canada, from Murphy to Manteo with her husband and family. She was a true believer in her Christian faith, serving in many different capacities in the church and instilling her belief of God in her children. At the time of her passing she attended the Bridge of life Church in Leland, North Carolina.
A Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday, February 16, at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Shipyard and 17th Streets, Wilmington.
