WILMINGTON — In loving memory of Donald Lee Breeden, Jr., who passed away peacefully on February 9, 2025. Born on June 10, 1957, in Alexandria, Virginia, Don’s journey through life was marked by dedication, kindness, and a deep love for his family and community. He was 67 years old.
Don spent three decades working with the North Carolina Prison System in Wilmington, where he dedicated himself to service until his retirement. After retiring, he continued to contribute to his community by working security at Shell Island, where he was known for his unwavering integrity and commitment.
A man of many passions, Don loved to take his family bowling, watching football and fishing. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, creating cherished memories that will last a lifetime. He attended Freedom Baptist Church and lived his life inspired by his love for his Lord and Savior.
Don is preceded in death by his parents, Donald L. Breeden, Sr. and Rita Brandmaier Breeden. He leaves behind a legacy of love exemplified by his wife, Cornelia Elaine Breeden, and his children, Aron Breeden and his wife Kim, and Kayla Barger and her husband Andrew, all of whom reside in Wilmington. His five grandchildren, Ayla, Nadine, Cameron, Kaylee, and Caleb, were a constant source of pride and joy for him. He is also survived by his beloved pet cat, Milo, and countless extended family members and friends he met along his journey.
A celebration of Don’s remarkable life will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 17, 2025, at Freedom Baptist Church, located at 802 North College Road, Wilmington, NC 28405. Reverend Dodd Mays will officiate the services.
