SOUTHPORT — Lynn Weiner (nee Kleinheinz) of Southport, North Carolina passed away on January 7, 2025 at the age of 65 after a 10 month battle with an aggressive and rare lung cancer.
Lynn was born on March 13, 1959 in Bethesda, Maryland. Growing up, she loved to play softball, where she was the star pitcher on her father’s team. She earned a degree in Business Administration from Towson University, where she also played intramural sports, was a cheerleader, and crowned homecoming queen.
As an adult she continued to be passionate about an active and healthy lifestyle, even running a marathon at age 45. In addition to this passion, Lynn always loved to continue learning throughout her life. In 2010, she passed her CPA exam. In true fashion of her love of learning and support of her children in all endeavors, she infamously took an online Spanish class when her kids needed help studying in school.
In addition to being a loving and dedicated mom and wife, Lynn excelled in her career in healthcare technology with Aetna, Pfizer, Novant and Inova.
Lynn was always looking for ways to help others in any way she could; she regularly volunteered at hospice, donated blood, and sat on the board of Marcia Courage in Action (a cancer nonprofit). Even in the midst of her own battle with cancer, she continued to seek ways to be of service to others. She participated in a clinical trial in Fairfax, VA and found fulfillment knowing this research would help others. She found joy in the little things in life: a long walk at the beach, a sunny day out on the porch, hearing the breeze blowing her wind chimes, and a good nap (preferably snuggled up with a dog).
Survivors include her husband, Michael Weiner; two children, Erica (Jake) Weiner, and Alex (Amanda) Weiner; two sisters, Lori (Wayne) Romanek, and Marcia (Matt) Colender; brother, Mark (Mary) Kleinheinz; sister-in-law, Marlene (Jerry) Deaton; brothers-in-law, Dr. Mitchell (Freddi) Weiner, Mark Weiner and Erik Cohen; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She is reunited in heaven with her parents, Jim and Eileen Kleinheinz, sister-in-law, Marcia Cohen, parents-in-law, Phillip and Shirley Weiner, and beloved dogs, Garrett and Bailey.
The Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 4900 Strathmore Avenue Garrett Park, Maryland on Thursday, January 16, 2025 at 11:00 am. The family will have visitation at the church prior to the Mass starting at 10:00 am, and a eulogy will be given at 10:45 am. A reception will follow the service at the home of Dr. Mitchell and Freddi Weiner at 7810 Custer Road, Bethesda, MD.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Marcia Courage in Action.
