LELAND — David Howard Meredith, 85, of Leland, NC passed away peacefully at home on December 15, 2024. He is survived by his wife Martha, his children Parker and Holly, his son-in-law Christian, and his grandson Talon.
Born on June 27, 1939, in Mellen, Wisconsin, he was a skilled marksman, who served with distinction on the US Army Rifle Team, achieving the pinnacle of his career as the 1965 National High Power Service Rifle Champion. His professional career included college administrator and professor, corporate trainer and management consultant.
Dave possessed an inquisitive intellect and was an avid life-long learner. He applied his talent for transforming spaces in each of their homes with artistic vision and joy in creating functional and beautiful living spaces. He used his fascination with Hudson River stones to create special bluestone steps, patios, planters, walls, and sculptures from the stones he collected along the riverbanks.
An avid kayaker, Dave found solace and adventure on the Hudson River. He was also a fierce advocate for keeping the river safe and clean. A true animal lover, Dave had a special fondness for all dogs, particularly his beloved companion, Lilly. A quiet and soft-spoken individual, he supported the energetic and creative adventures of his wife of 46 years and fiercely championed the achievements of his children. You understood Dave saw and heard you by the twinkle in his eye and knowing smile he would gift you. It was a trait that all who knew him loved and will miss the most.
In honor of Dave’s wishes, no formal funeral or memorial service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare in Wilmington, NC.
