SOUTHPORT — Kirby Sullivan, 96, formerly of Southport and Leland, North Carolina, died on September 27, 2024 in hospice care near his home in Moore Haven, Florida.
Judge Sullivan was born in Brunswick County on October 2, 1927, son of the late Cleve and Clara Sullivan.
While living in Southport he was drafted into the United States Army and served in Korea as a member of the Judge Advocate section.
After returning to Southport, he served as attorney for the Board of Education, City Attorney, president of the Brunswick County Historical Association, Mayor Pro Tem of Boiling Spring Lakes, a member of the NC House of Representatives, President of the Southport Jaycees and Lions Club, a life-member of the V.F.W. and American Legion, and on the founding Cape Fear Community College Board of Directors. He was also a developer of Harbor Oaks in Southport.
He was a member of Southport Baptist Church for many years before moving to Florida as an attorney.
He was later elected Glades County Judge where he retired.
Survivors include nieces and nephews, Carl Sullivan and wife Cindy, Aline Corbett Harrell, Elmore Sullivan Jr., Sylvia Jones and husband Chris, Brenda King, and many more nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Frank, and wife, Mary Lou; brother, Lee, and wife, Bessie; brother, Elmore Sr., and wife, Ruby; his sister, Susie Sullivan Corbett; nephew, Neil Sullivan; and niece, Patsy Elliot and her husband, Chuck Elliot; and other nieces and nephews.
