WILMINGTON — Augustus Codington Everett, Jr., age 81 of Wilmington, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home on August 15, 20924. Born in Wilmington on June 25, 1943, Ace lived a life marked by dedication to his family, profession, and Masonic Community.
Ace grew up in Wilmington and graduated from New Hanover High School in 1962. Ace was a proud Veteran of the US Air Force serving from September 19, 1962 and being Honorable Discharged on June 30, 1966.
In his leisure time Ace enjoyed flying, spending time at the beach, listening to Beach Music and “Shagg” dancing.
Professionally, Ace had a distinguished career in aviation, beginning with Piedmont Airlines and culminating in his retirement from US Airways in Operations Control as dispatcher. He served for a total of 32 years with Piedmont and US Air. His commitment to his work and his colleagues was unwavering.
A man deeply rooted in Masonic traditions, Ace was a proud and devoted member of St. John’s Lodge #1 A.F. & A.M., where he was raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason on December 8, 1976, where he dedicated nearly 48 years to the Craft. In 2006 he served as Worshipful Master of St. John’s Lodge #1, and from 2008 to 2013, he held the position of Secretary. His leadership extended to Enterprise Lodge # 752 in Clemmons, NC, where he served multiple terms as Worshipful Master.
Ace’s commitment did not stop there; he was profoundly involved with the Scottish Rite at the Valley of Wilmington. Initiated in March 1977, he achieved the 32-degree, Master of the Royal Secret. In November 2003 he was honored as a 32-degree Knight Commander Court of Honor, and in August 2007, he was honored and recognized with the 33-degree, Honorary Inspector General by the AASR Supreme Council (Southern Jurisdiction). His service roles include Venerable Master in 2008 and General Secretary from 2006 to 2015, exemplifying an extraordinary level of service.
His Masonic service also included being a member of Wilmington York Rite Bodies and Past Worthy Patron of the Order of Eastern Star, a member of Sudan Shriners, and the Wilmington Shrine Club.
Ace was preceded in death by his parents, Augustus Codington Everett, Sr. and Sarah Ormsby Everett.
Ace is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Sandra Lewis Everett; two sons, Scott Everett and wife Katie and Ross Everett; grandchildren, Heather Bawsel, Jack Everett, and Sam Everett; and great granddaughter, Belle; special friend and Masonic brother Rusty Jeffries and Jim Stoutz; along with many brothers and friends in the Masonic Community throughout the State of North Carolina.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at the Wilmington Scottish Rite Temple 1415 S. 17th Street Wilmington, NC 28401.
Augustus Codington Everett’s legacy of service, dedication, and friendship will be long remembered by all who knew and loved him.
