Jane Peterson Wardenfelt (Andrews Mortuary and Crematory)

WILMINGTON — Jane Grace Peterson Wardenfelt, age 85, of Wilmington, NC, went to her heavenly home on August 8, 2024.

Jane is preceded in death by her husband, Steve Wardenfelt of Wilmington; her parents Norwood and Lucille Peterson of Riegelwood; her sisters Bobbie Lou Medlin and Nancy Lennon of Riegelwood; her brother-in-law Jim Lennon of Riegelwood; and her nephew Arden Medlin of Wilmington.

She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Flowers (Jeff) of Riegelwood; son, WC Phelps, II (Angie) of Delco; son, Brian Phelps (Kristen) of Wilmington.

Jane is survived by her grandchildren Nick Phelps (Brook), Allison Flowers, Tim Phelps; great grandchildren Gavyn Phelps and Memphis Phelps. She is survived by her sister Shirley Corbett and her husband Tommy, as well as many other extended family members and friends who loved her and will miss her.

Jane was born and raised in the Riegelwood area where she was a devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved the Lord and was an active church member all her life. She was a member of Riegelwood Baptist Church for most of her life. When she and Steve moved to Wilmington, she became a member of his home church, Wrightsboro Baptist Church. She and Steve also supported their daughter Brenda’s ministry as members of Masonboro Baptist Church and Lake Forest Baptist Church for a period of time. Jane sang in the choir, worked in the church library, taught children’s Sunday School, helped in outreach ministry and eagerly served wherever she was needed.

After graduating from Acme-Delco High School, Jane began her career working with the postal service. She started out as a clerk in the Riegelwood office and then became postmaster there. She spent the last few years of her career as postmaster of the office in Kelly.

Jane enjoyed reading, working in her flowers and traveling with her husband, Steve. They especially loved spending time in Myrtle Beach and visiting with friends and family in Florida. Jane will be greatly missed but will live on forever in the memories of the lives she touched with her beautiful smile and her loving and gentle spirit.
