WILMINGTON — Junius Andre “Andy” Tysinger, Sr., 90, of Wilmington, NC, passed away peacefully on Friday July 26, 2024.

Andy was born on January 5, 1934, in Thomasville, NC to Clifford Banks Tysinger, Sr and Catherine Matthews Tysinger. He is survived by his devoted wife of 72 years, Violet “Squeak” Tysinger. Together, they built a loving family, including their children: Linda Hinton, and Andy Tysinger, Jr. and his wife, Sue Tysinger.

Andy was a proud grandfather to Catherine Casteen and her husband Lee Casteen, and Trey Hinton and his fiancée Ellen Hopp. His legacy continues with his great-grandchildren: Trey Casteen, Emma Hinton, Noah Casteen, Natalie Casteen, and Tyler Hinton. Andy’s life was enriched by the enduring friendships he shared with Rod and Carolyn Compton, and Larry Smith. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Clifford B. Tysinger, Jr. and Phillip Tysinger, as well as his son-in-law, Billy Hinton.

A graduate of New Hanover High School, Andy was known for his strong work ethic. He built a career as an iron worker and construction professional, and his dedication extended to the baseball field, where he coached with passion. Andy was an avid golfer, enjoying the game regularly until the age of 89. Remarkably, he often shot his age or better, a testament to his skill and love for the sport. Andy was a member of Pine Valley Baptist Church.Andy Tysinger’s life was marked by hard work, love for his family, and a zest for life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A visitation for Andy will take place on Saturday, August 3, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Pine Valley Baptist Church, 3940 Shipyard Blvd., Wilmington, NC with the service immediately following.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Andy’s memory to Lower Cape Fear Life Care.
