Mary Ethel Durdle (Wilmington Funeral & Cremation)

HAMPSTEAD — Mary Ethel Durdle, of Hampstead, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2024, at the age of 89. Born on September 9, 1934, in San Jose, Illinois, Mary lived a life full of love, faith, and dedication to her family and community.

Mary found immense joy in spending time with her loving family and friends, whether it was through her active participation in the Red Hat Ladies Society or at her beloved church. As a devoted member of Messiah Lutheran Church, she contributed greatly to the fellowship and spiritual enrichment of the congregation.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Eldridge Canada and Mabel Endicott Canada; her loving husband of 65 years, Franklin Wendell Durdle; a sister, Mildred; four brothers, Charles, Bill, Gene, and Jerry; and three brothers-in-law, Gus Fortney, Darryl Mason, and Richard Kammeyer.

Surviving to cherish her memory are her children, Nicholas Durdle of Hampstead, NC, Deborah Johnson and husband, Gordon, of Moyock, NC, and Dennis Durdle of Cerro Gordo, NC; her two brothers, Melvin Canada and Glenn Canada; three sisters, Elizabeth Fortney, Ellen Mason, and Annice Kammeyer; her loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

A service to celebrate Mary’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at Messiah Lutheran Church, located at 3302 South College Road, Wilmington, NC 28412.

Inurnment will follow at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, in Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, located at 110 Montford Point Road, Jacksonville, NC 28445.
