Steven Michael Wells, 67

Steven Michael Wells (Wilmington Funeral & Cremation)

WILMINGTON — Steven Michael Wells died on Sunday, June 23, 2024, with his family by his side. He was born on November 28, 1956, to the late Marvin and Eleanor Wells of Turkey, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his brother, Terry Wells.

Steve is survived by his wife and best friend, Linda Carlton Wells, of Surf City; daughter, Anna Kathryn Feeley and husband, John of Surf City; son, Steven Michael Wells, Jr. and wife, Jenna of Wilmington; grandsons, Noah Michael Feeley and Harrison Michael Wells and granddaughter, Emma Rose Wells; brothers Dave Wells and wife, Mary Kay, and Gary Wells and wife, Beth of Clinton; sister-in-laws, Gail Wells, Emily Saunders, and Geneva Maready and husband, Greg; numerous nieces and nephews.

Steve lived, laughed, loved, and left a legacy.

He was happiest enjoying the simple things… a good cup of coffee, the porch swing, a back road, the laughter of his grandchildren, a sunrise, early mornings on the farm, an evening boat ride, and country music.

A strong work ethic and a positive attitude carried him through his daily life. He gained many lifelong friends through his community, his service as a volunteer firefighter, and the insurance industry. He treasured his family and always made them a priority. His faith was evident in how he treated others. He loved old friends and new, never giving up on the idea that there is good in everyone.

He enjoyed making up phrases that no one understood ~ we called it “Turkey talk.” He would often be asked to do the “naught naught” on a project in the works. His pride and joy were his grandchildren who thought he had a great mustache and loved to play Uno with him. Needless to say, his children and their spouses gave him purpose and the promise of a future. He was always agreeable to any new adventure they planned or gave advice when he thought it would be helpful.

He left this earth knowing he was loved by his family and many friends. It was a beautiful journey and as he would often say, “That’s right!”

In remembrance of Steve’s love of service and gratitude for the care he received in the latter part of his earthly journey, memorials may be made to Wallace Firefighter’s Association or Lower Cape Fear LifeCare.
