BURGAW — James Lee Blalock, age 79, passed away peacefully at home in Burgaw on Wednesday, June 12, 2024.
He was born on October 22, 1944 in San Bernardino, California, the son of Thomas Shelton Blalock and Alberta Ruth Sponseller Blalock.
His memory will be cherished by his daughters, Melisa Matthews and Melinda Lippard (Jacob); grandchildren, Kimberly Rojas, TW Blalock (Melissa), Collin Robbins, Davis Robbins, Lexi Robbins, Madeline Lippard, Mary Catherine Lippard, Caroline Lippard; several great-grandchildren; sister, Barbara Bennett (Robert); and many extended family members.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, Thomas Blalock and Christopher Blalock; and brother, Tommy Blalock.
James was a man of many passions and talents, he spent countless hours in the great outdoors, indulging in his love for hunting, fishing, and birdwatching. Generosity was one of James’ defining characteristics. He was always ready to lend a helping hand, whether to friends, neighbors, or even strangers. Watching any sport or PBS on the television was a favorite pastime. Above all, James valued his family as family was his all. His legacy is one of love, generosity, and deep appreciation of the natural world. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with Reverend David Knowles conducting the service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service.
