WILMINGTON — Margot Haynes Hardee, of Wilmington, NC, passed away on Saturday, June 8th at age 79.
She was born on October 27th, 1944 in High Point, NC to the late Mr. Dennis “Clark” Haynes and the late Mrs. Dorothy Hall Haynes. She is pre-deceased by her loving husband of 51 years, Coach David R. “Dave” Hardee (also originally of High Point, NC).
She was a graduate of Ledford Senior High School and later attended Lees-McRae College. She and family moved to Wilmington, NC in 1967 as her husband began a 37-year career in education and coaching team sports at New Hanover County Schools. She was a licensed Realtor with Jackson Real Estate in Wilmington during the 1970’s but later became a full-time homemaker and also continued working part-time in rental real estate as a bookkeeper and notary public until the early 2000s.
She was a lady of many talents enjoying making and repairing clothing, quilts and knitting, arts and crafts, and many other hobbies. She was also a member of the local Red Hats Society, which she greatly enjoyed with her sister Red Hats.
She is survived by her son, Bryant Hardee, daughter Allison Mead and her husband John, 3 grandchildren, Holly McClelland, Sydney Mead, and John David Mead. She is also survived by her sister Farres H Upton of High Point, NC and her son, Kent Upton and his wife Perry (also of High Point), She also had many cousins, relatives, and friends who she was always very close to over the years. The family would also like to acknowledge the lifelong friendships to Margot of Mary Caroline Pole and Sandra Toole who she always said were like sisters to her.
The family would also like to thank Margot’s caretakers from Home Instead and Amedisys Hospice who were pivotal in her care during her final months.
