BURGAW — Virginia Tiede passed away peacefully on April 10, 2024 at age 94. She was a caring daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, wife, school teacher, neighbor, and kind friend.
Born and raised in Cumberland, Maryland, Ginger graduated from Allegheny High School, St. Mary’s College, and Frostburg State College. A first-grade and kindergarten teacher, she taught in Bangor, ME, and Raleigh, NC. She raised her family and retired in Raleigh. In recent years, she moved to Burgaw near one of her daughters.
Virginia is survived by her sister, Rebecca Borgman Brookes, and her daughters, Sally Butler (Bob), Susie Newberry (Al), her grandchildren Brooke Newberry (Ryan), Brad Butler (Rebecca), Will Newberry, and her great-grandchildren, Berry, Chloe, Henry, and Hope.
Virginia is preceded in death by her parents, Vincent and Sarah Borgman; her sister, Alice Jean O’Toole (Tom), her previous husband, Joe Tiede, and her son, John Tiede (Cindy).
Known as Ginger, Mom, and Mema, she was a sweet, smart and kind soul to all. We are heartened knowing she will be immediately greeted by her beloved dog, Georgie, at the gates of heaven. We will miss her dearly.
Her daughters thank the wonderful staff at the Laurels of Pender for their care of Mom; and Lower Cape Fear Hospice for their support.
A private service will be planned.
