WILMINGTON — Charles Wayne Merritt, age 72, of Wilmington, NC, passed away on April 10, 2024. He was born on April 4, 1952, in Columbus County, NC.

Charles dedicated over 40 years of his life as the owner of Wayne Merritt Heating and Air services, serving Southeastern NC with pride and dedication. He was a skilled professional who made a lasting impact on his community.

In his leisure time, Charles found joy in hunting and fishing, activities that brought him closer to many individuals. He was a loving brother to Johnny Ray Henson and Joseph Donald Henson Jr., and his presence will be deeply missed by those who knew him.

Proudly, Charles was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and the Mechanized Cavalry, organizations that held special significance to him.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Fairfax Henson, and raised proudly by Joseph Donald Henson, along with a brother, James Henson.

Charles is survived by his brothers, Johnny Ray Henson and Joseph Donald Henson Jr., who will cherish his memory forever.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday April 13, 2024 at Wilmington Funeral Chapel, Wilmington, NC

A graveside service to celebrate his life will be held at 10 a.m. on Sunday, April 14, 2024, at Greenlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society at 2202 Wrightsville Ave STE 111, Wilmington, NC 28403.
