WILMINGTON — George Lee Gilgo, 87, of Wilmington, NC, passed away August 19, 2023, at Novant New Hanover Regional Hospital. He was born December 14, 1935 in Oriental, NC to the late Tom and Lucy Beacham Gilgo.
George was a proud veteran of the United States Army and held membership with the Masons. He graduated from Cisco Junior College with an Associate’s degree before moving to East Carolina University. George was a man with a wide variety of experiences, working as a shrimper, a civil engineer at the Army Corps of Engineers and FEMA, as well as spending time as an employee of Babcock & Wilcox.
George was a long-time member of the Wesley Memorial Methodist Church.
George is survived by his loving wife, Evelyn Jones Gilgo; daughters, Ann G. Mussel White (Stephen) and Shelia Gilgo Gautreau (James); brothers, Paul Gilgo and Jack Gilgo; grandchildren, Alex P. Mussel White (Labreassa) and Brandon M. Mussel White (Victoria); and great-grandchildren, Austin and Tristin.
He is preceded in death by his siblings, Nina, William, Peggy, Blanche, Billy, Sylvia, Jane, and Jimmy.
A celebration of life will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, September 3, 2023 at the family home.
