Eleanor Jean Ives Moss, 87

BURGAW — Jean Ives Moss, age 87, of Clinton and formerly of Burgaw passed peacefully from her blessed earthly life Friday, July 21, 2023.

She was born August 1, 1935 in Maple Hill, one of eight children born to Francis Hibbs Ives and Julia Louise Watson Batts. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 66 years, Marvin Ray Moss, Sr.; brothers, Earl, Marvin, and Elmo Ives; and sisters, Mary Lou Brown, Frances Maready, Rachel Powell, and Pat Teachey.

Jean is survived by her sons, Marvin Ray Moss, Jr. (Bobbi) and Alan Moss (Bert); daughters, Jeanne Moss and Tammy Reagan (Robert); 12 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She also leaves behind her loyal dog, Nubbin.

Jean was a faithful helpmate to Marvin. As they raised their four children, Jean often worked outside of the home. She retired as a rural mail carrier for the Burgaw Post Office and often said that was her favorite job.

Most of Jean’s adult life she was a faithful member of Friendly Community Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and served in many other capacities. A number of years ago Marvin and Jean joined and became an active part of Burgaw Baptist Church.

Jean was an extraordinary woman of God whose resounding faith and love for family was unmatched. Her brightly shining light often served as a guide to those around her. Those that knew Jean will always remember her feisty spirit and her passion for growing beautiful flowers, singing and spending holidays with family. Jean loved the outdoors, working in her yard, fishing, and camping (Marvin and Jean traveled the United States by car and Amtrak). Always quietly generous, willing to serve, Jean was a giver. She was a true example of what it meant to be a Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and Friend. Her presence in our lives will be forever missed but we find solace in knowing she is at peace and rejoicing with her Almighty Father.

The family will receive friends 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 24, 2023 at Burgaw Baptist Church with memorial service at 11:00 a.m. also in the church sanctuary. The Rev. Danny Justice, The Rev. Tom Canady and The Rev. Nathan Morton will conduct the service.

Shared memories and condolences may be sent to the family here.
