WILMINGTON — The light of Simon Carey Suggs blew out on April 2, 2023 at the age of 78. Simon was born on August 24, 1944 in Wilmington to Simon Peter and Margaret Thompson Suggs. He passed away peacefully at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Center in Wilmington.
Simon is preceded in death by his sweetheart and wife of 41 years, Penny, and their two daughters, Libby and Kim. He is also preceded in death by his special grandson Michael.
Simon is a Vietnam Veteran, serving as a communications specialist in the United States Navy. He was a man of many skills. Simon played coronet from a young age, a skilled carpenter, and equally talented gardener. He could fix anything, a true jack of all trades. He was a selfless man who loved his family above all else, and praised his love of his grand and great grandchildren until the very end. He was the ultimate father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend, and those that he leaves behind will miss him to eternity.
Simon is survived by his grandchildren, Payge and Michael Caldwell, Payton Stanley, Zachary Lewis and Preston Stanley; great grandchildren, Libby-Rain and Simon Caldwell. He also leaves behind his dear friend of many years, Jimmy Sibbett, and his beloved dog Beezy.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jimmy Sibbett, Michael Caldwell, Preston Stanley, Zachary Lewis and Brooks Stanley.
Family and friends will gather on Friday, April 7, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. for a visitation followed by a funeral service at 11:30 a.m. at Coble Funeral and Cremation Service at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 1155 Shipyard Blvd in Wilmington NC to celebrate the life of Simon Suggs.
