WILMINGTON — Jeanne G. Thompson, 92, of Wilmington, NC, died peacefully on Monday January 23, 2023, at Arbor Landing in Ocean Isle, NC.
She was born on June 30, 1930, in Tionesta, PA, to the late Floyd and Mary (Dechant) Kline in the farm house her father built. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by Donald ‘Deese’ Thompson, her husband of nearly 70 years, her sisters Marge Roberts, Rita Churchill, Pat Quinto and Ethyl MacBeth as well as her brothers Bill Kline and Don Kline. She is survived by her brother Elton Kline as well as her children Dennis Thompson (Patricia), Mitch Thompson (Barbara), Sandra Nolf (Randy), Janice Kiehl (Thomas), Theresa Sawyer (William), and Patrick (Kathleen), in addition to eighteen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Jeanne graduated from Farmington High School in Tylersburg, PA, in 1948. She moved to Erie, PA, that same year working as a telephone operator and then relocated to New York City in 1950 to take a number of jobs including Barbazon fashion model. She married Donald Thompson in 1952 after he graduated from the US Coast Guard Academy and they were relocated often, living in nearly two dozen homes from Florida to Alaska in their life together.
She was active member of The Basilica of St. Mary, working with soup kitchens, acting as a Eucharistic minister, and working on the decorating committee to arrange flowers in the church. Jeanne gathered many dear friends over the years and delighted in her large family. She especially enjoyed the annual Wrightsville Beach family gatherings.
Friends may call at the Andrews Funeral Home, 1617 Market St, Wilmington, NC, on Thursday February 9 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. A Funeral Liturgy will be held Friday, February 10, at 11 a.m. at The Basilica of St. Mary, located at 412 Ann St in Wilmington. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
