WILMINGTON — Virginia Ann (Tudy) Reilly, 76, of Wilmington, NC (previously of Franklin Grove, IL), passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2023 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.
Virginia was born on May 30, 1946 in Aurora, Illinois to Floyd and Sophie (Pietkiewicz) Thompson. She had a lifelong passion for helping animals and others. She fulfilled her childhood dream of becoming a nurse, graduating as the oldest in her class, in 1990. She then worked the night shift for nearly 20 years at CGH Medical Center, in Sterling, Illinois before retiring. Her hobbies included ALL things Harry Potter, decorating her Christmas tree for every season and bragging about her children and Grands.
Virginia is survived by the love of her life, Michael R. Reilly, whom she was married to for 54 years, her four daughters: Michelle (Steve) Deming of Plymouth, IN, Angela (John) Casner of Apex, NC, Katherine (Shannon) (Billy) Townsend of Princeton, IL and Arryan Casner of Leland, NC. Eight grandchildren: Kristofer Newcomer, Aaron (Jillian) Wolf, Kyle (Ashley) Newcomer, Jeremy (Mallory) Wolf, Jacqueline (Tyler) Anderson, Madison Townsend, Althea Casner and Nathan Casner. Six great-grandchildren: Addison, Mason, Ryleigh, Brantley, Mariah and Aurora. She is also survived by her in-laws: Ron Butuso, Pat (Joyce) Reilly, Valerie Barton, Tom (Carol) Reilly, Deborah Harrington and Barbara (David) Freeman, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Sophie, her older sister Sylvia Butuso and her brother-in-law John Barton.
A Celebration of Life Party will be planned to take place in Illinois, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family for disbursement to Virginia’s favorite charities.
