WILMINGTON — William Michael Young, 71, of Wilmington, passed away on Friday, December 16, 2022, at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Center in Wilmington.
He was born on February 28, 1951, in New Hanover County, North Carolina, to the late William Henry Young and Wilma Lois Rivenbark Young.
Michael was a member of Cape Fear Christian Church in Wilmington, where he also was an Elder, Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. He taught Public Speaking courses. Michael was a loving husband, father, uncle and brother that would give the shirt off his back and was always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need. He loved to work in the backyard and always had a fire going to hear the crackling of the wood and feel its inviting warmth.
Michael is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Sandra (Parker) Young; daughter, Jessica Dianne Young; sister, Joyce Young Lorek and husband, Andrew; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Rae Parker and wife, Toni, Jeff Trent Parker and wife, Robin, John B. Parker, Jr. and wife, Beth; sister-in-law, Kathy Parker Zachary; and many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Michael was also preceded in death by his brother, Patrick Young; father-in-law, J.B. Parker; and his mother-in-law, Rae Parker.
His funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at Cape Fear Christian Church in Wilmington with Pastor Matthew Dahmer officiating. The family will receive friends at noon one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Oleander Memorial Gardens.
