WILMINGTON — Billy Joe Martin, Sr., 85, of Wilmington, NC, died Friday, June 10, 2022, at his residence.
He was born in Whiteville, NC, on September 19, 1936, the son of the late George Arlin Martin and Mary Arlene Blackmon Martin. Also remembered is his wife Helen Louise Pollock Martin; a brother, Arlin Martin, Jr.; and a sister, Betty Willie, all of whom preceded him in death.
Surviving are two sons, Joseph Lee Martin and Janet, Billy J. Martin, Jr. and Jennifer; four grandsons, Joseph Lee Martin, Jason Worth, Hunter Ryan and Tanner Phillip; a brother, George Walton; sisters, Helen Whiteman of Jacksonville, FL and Barbara Rodgers and Grant; great-grandkids, Aleah, Nicole, Aiden Lee; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Martin was a veteran of the US Army having serviced from 1953 to 1955 during the Korean War. He spent twenty-six years with the Wilmington Fire Department where he retired as a Captain. He also served as a Captain in the Sunny Point Fire Department for twelve years beginning in 1986. Billy was a member of the Cape Fear Shag Club and Gospel Fellowship Holiness Church. He was also a member of Wilmington Masonic Lodge #319 AF & AM for over fifty years.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 pm Monday, June 13, 2022 at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
