WILMINGTON — Billy “Bill” F. Williams, 83, of Wilmington, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2022, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice.
Bill was born on September 5, 1938, in Clarendon, North Carolina, to Edward and Eva Williams. The family moved to Wilmington, North Carolina, when Bill was a few years old. After Bill graduated from New Hanover High School in 1956, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. Bill was sent to Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.
It was there where Bill met Maylin “Kitty” in the spring of 1959. They met through mutual friends. Bill and Kitty were married on October 17, 1959. Soon after, the two moved back to Wilmington, North Carolina, and went on to have two children, Scott and Monica.
Shortly after moving back to Wilmington, Bill started working as an ABC Officer for the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, where he worked until retiring in 1978. Bill was passionate about his time with the Sheriff’s Office, as evidenced by the fact that both his daughter, Monica, and grandson, Justin, followed in his footsteps with careers in law enforcement. After retiring, Bill embarked on several successful business ventures.
Bill enjoyed fishing for spots and flounder and spending time with his family. Once he became a grandfather, he fully embraced that role and became affectionately known by everyone as “Pa Bill.”
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Eva Williams; his beloved daughter, Lieutenant Monica Carey; his son-in-law, Retired Police Captain Joe Carey; and his sister, Hulda Pink. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Kitty Williams; his son, Scott Williams and wife Marcia; his sister, Barbara Larkins; his grandchildren, Detective Justin Shingleton and wife Amanda, Meghan Goulette and husband Nicholas, Jeremy Williams and wife Sarah, Josh Williams and wife Jenna, Jami Adams, and William Adams; and his great-grandchildren, Jackson, Alice, Xander, June, Spencer, Charlie, and Luke. Bill will also be missed by his extended family, including niece Marlina Raley and her children, Seth, Bryce, Mia, and Anna, and multiple cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A Graveside Service will be held for family and close friends on April 22, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Oleander Memorial Gardens, Wilmington.
