Dorothy (Theocharisti) Miliotis, 85

WILMINGTON — Dorothy (Theocharisti) Miliotis, age 85, passed away peacefully February 5, 2022, due to Multiple System Atrophy (MSA). She was born May 15, 1936, in the village of Pagondas, on the island of Samos, Greece to Kosta and Despina.  At the age of 10, Dorothy and her family emigrated to the United States and stayed with her uncle in Chicago, Illinois. Not able to speak a word of English, it was only through the kindness of another classmate that she got through her first year. But Dorothy endured and embraced the challenge graduating high school with honors in 1954.

At the age of 24 she took a vacation to Greece and to her surprise, met Pantelis Miliotis, someone from her hometown village who would become her husband and love of her life.  They moved to Chicago, started a family with 2 children Emanuel and Dino, and quickly became pillars of the Greek Orthodox community. While Pantelis became a Greek School teacher at Holy Trinity Church-Chicago Dorothy became an administrator for a middle school in the suburbs.

Pantelis and Dorothy retired and moved to Palm Harbor Florida in 2002 becoming a key fabric of the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Tarpon Springs. Dorothy was active in Philoptochos Society and the senior adult dance troop. Upon her husband’s passing in 2017, Dorothy moved to Wilmington NC to be near her son and became a member of the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. Dorothy will be fondly remembered as someone who was kind, soft spoken and loving.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband Pantelis, her parents Kosta and Despina, her brother Emanuel and her grandchild David. She is survived by her two sons Emanuel (Mary Beth) and Dino, her grandchildren Peter, Pantelis, Alexandra (Lucas) and Sophia and great grandchild Theotokis.

Funeral services will be held at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church of Wilmington NC on Friday February 11th at 1:00 pm. The family will receive visitors beginning at 12:30 pm. Interment will be at Curlew Hills Memorial Gardens at Palm Harbor Florida (time to be announced). In lieu of flowers you can make donations out to St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church memorial fund or the Multiple System Atrophy Coalition.
