WILMINGTON — Staff Sergeant Larry John Moltane, age 71, passed away on October 4, 2021.
Larry is survived by his wife Jennifer Hinnant of two years, with whom he was best friends for over 25 years. Larry is also survived by his two sons Larry Moltane Jr & Jason Leigh Moltane; his four grandchildren David & Mia Marie Moltane and Damien & Arabella Moltane, as well as two sisters, Catherine(Cathy) and Susan(Susie) and two brothers, Mark and David Moltane.
Larry passed away from a blood infection sepsis after having a triple heart bypass surgery in September.
Larry was born in Ft Lauderdale, Fl. on March 3, 1950, to Catherine Marie Tackles and David Paul Moltane Sr. Larry grew up in Riverdale, New Jersey. After graduating from high school, he enlisted into the US Army when he was 18 years old. He served as a cook in Hawaii, and boy he could cook!
He worked for Wrightsville Beach plumbing for over 20 years. Larry was a very skilled heavy machinist. He was a dedicated employee, and often took new employees under his wing and helped them both on & off the job.
Larry’s hobbies included Golf, bowling, darts, basketball, and Karaoke. He frequented his corner pubs, Triangle Lounge & Salty Dogs Tavern, where everyone loved him. He loved animals. He brought in doggie treats for any of the patrons’ dogs. He frequented American Legion Post #274. He loved hanging out with his friends and telling stories about his life from growing up as a child through years of service. Every morning Larry would have coffee and eat breakfast at Katy’s. He would chat with the old timers during breakfast for a couple of hours.
My Way by Frank Sinatra was one of Larry’s favorite songs that he would sing at Karaoke. And if you knew Larry, he liked to do things his way.
While his passing came way too soon for those that loved him, he will be greatly missed. He truly was a blessing and if you knew him, he was a true friend. And there was never a stranger by the end of the night.
