HAMPSTEAD — James Earl Fussell, 60, of South Dakota and formerly of Wilmington, and his wife, Virginia Webb-Fussell, passed away together Friday, July 9, 2021.

James was born Nov. 5, 1960, in Wilmington to Margaret June (Sebrell) Twiford and the late Hubert Earl Fussell.

James was a lifelong member of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church in Castle Hayne. He enjoyed working on cars and anything else mechanical. James also loved to travel. He was a very humorous man and a bright light to many people.

In addition to his father, James was preceded in death by his sister, Cindy Fussell; brother, Curtis Fussell; and two step-grandchildren, Wyatt Webb and Calvin Webb.

In addition to his mother, James is survived by his brothers, Kenneth L. Cavenaugh, Lee Dewayne Cavenaugh, and his wife, Ann, Michael Fussell, and his wife, Marlo, and Jacob; stepsons, Eric Webb, Michael Webb, and his wife, Cherie, Kyle Webb, and his wife, Terri, Rodney Webb, and Mitchell Webb, and his wife, Jordan; stepdaughters, Holly Webb and Brianna Webb; 23 step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 17, at Old Apostolic Lutheran Church, 3801 N. College Road, Castle Hayne, with Wayne McBride and Robert Erkstam officiating. Burial will follow in Harrells Cemetery, Harrells, at the intersection of Hwy 421 and Ward Rd (SR-1155).
