WILMINGTON — Bernard King “Bernie” Flynn Sr., 77, a native of Wilmington, passed away Tuesday, June 22, 2021, at home after a courageous battle with cancer surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest.
He was born April 27, 1944. Bernie graduated from New Hanover High School in 1962, where he played basketball and football. He graduated from Frederick College on an athletic scholarship — Class of 1967. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and served in Vietnam. His favorite pastimes were playing golf at Muni and eating breakfast on Tuesdays and Fridays at Ruth’s Kitchen. He was an avid music lover, especially beach music and Motown.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Sarah Margaret King Flynn Vinson.
Bernie is survived by his wife of 18 years, Vickie Wilkins; children, Katie Flynn (Jen), Bud Flynn (Jill) and Sean Flynn (Rachel); grandchildren, Daisy Flynn, Wyatt Flynn, Holden Flynn and Mae Flynn; sister, Louise Flynn McColl; and beloved cat, Cupcake.
A visitation will be held from noon to 2 p.m., Sunday, June 27, at Andrews Mortuary, Market Street.
