William Lenwood Turner, 92, ham radio enthusiast

WILMINGTON — William Lenwood Turner, 92, passed away Saturday, June 12, 2021, at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare.

He was born July 11, 1928, in Loris, South Carolina, son of the late Homer and Anna Kelly Turner. His wife, Helen Meares Turner; and sister, Maude Ladd, preceded him in death.

William was a member of Winter Park Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon and worked with the Men’s Group in the kitchen for many years. He retired from General Electric in 1988 and was ham radio operator W4VNK.

He is survived by two children, son, William G. Turner (Susan), and daughter, Cynthia Diane Turner, all of Wilmington; and two grandchildren, Shauna White (Charles) and Kelly Turner.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 15, in Greenlawn Memorial Park with the Rev. Aaron Doll officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in William’s memory may be made to Winter Park Presbyterian Church, 4501 Wrightsville Ave., Wilmington, NC 28403; or to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
