
SHALLOTTE — Peggy Mangum Owens, 85, died Friday, Nov. 27, 2020, at home. She was born June 10, 1935, in Wilson County, the daughter of Arthur (Doc) and Ruby Whitley Mangum. Peggy was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Maynard Owens.
Peggy graduated from Saratoga High School, Class of 1953, and East Carolina University in 1957 with a B.S. Degree in Education. She retired from teaching at Shallotte Middle School in 1992.
Surviving are her two brothers, Johnny and Grant Mangum; and three children, Glenn (Sharon) Owens, Audrey (Keith) Gore and Kenneth (Carrie) Owens. Peggy has six grandchildren, Jennifer Caison, Bryan Owens, Jason Gore, Ryan Gore, Katherine Owens and Cameron Owens; and four great-grandchildren.
Peggy was an avid bowler and a regular senior games competitor. She also loved going to the Brunswick Senior Center. Peggy was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church for 52 years.
A service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 2, at Calvary Baptist Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be held in Brunswick Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare (Hospice) or Calvary Baptist Church.
