
WILMINGTON — David Wayne Dickson, 80, passed away Thursday, Sept. 24, 2020, at his home.
He was born Jan. 15, 1940, in Schenectady, New York, the son of John Dickson and Virginia Shafer Dickson.
David worked as an animal health supervisor in the Toxicology Department at Sanofi-Synthelabo. After a 30-year career, he retired in
2000 to Wilmington. Because of David, Wilmington became the go-to vacation location for family and friends for many years.
David enjoyed many various activities, including biking, golfing, reading, fishing and going to the beach. He volunteered at Fort Fisher, where he gave over 2,000 hours and earned the volunteer of the year award in 2008 and 2011. Outside of work and his love of all animals, David gained the nickname of “Doctor Dave.”
David served his country with honor and distinction in the U.S. Navy from 1958 till 1960.
He is survived by his sister, Diane Sulti (John); sons, David Dickson (Mary) and Brian Dickson (Patricia); grandchildren, Calvin, Julia and Ana; many nieces and nephews; and special friend of over 50 years, Maryanne Harris.
The family will receive friends at a visitation to be held from 2 to 4 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 30, at Wilmington Funeral Chapel.
In recognition of David’s honorable and faithful service to his country the U.S. Navy Honor Guard will render Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made to the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher, 900 Loggerhead Road, Kure Beach, NC 28449 in loving memory of David would be greatly appreciated.
