WILMINGTON — James Michael “Mike” Gore I, 70, went to be with his Lord Sunday, Sept. 13, 2020. He passed away peacefully at home with his family.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, William E. Gore and Flora A. Gore; brothers, Sam Hand and John Hand; and sisters, Zelma Piner and Zoe McMillion.
He is survived by his wife, the love of his life, Linda Gore; son, James Michael Gore II; daughter, Gina Gore (Mike); brother, William Gore (Mary); and grandsons, Austin Michael Gore and Kendrick Evan Gore.
Mike was born June 10, 1950, in Jacksonville, Florida, and moved to Wilmington shortly thereafter, where he lived for the rest of his life. He graduated from New Hanover High School in 1969 and soon after began working at the North Carolina State Port, where he worked for 40 years.
Mike met his wife Linda in Sunday school at Sunset Park Baptist Church. They were married soon after and started their family. They were married for 43 years. He loved Jesus, and it showed every day. Mike was a kind and selfless person who would give someone the shirt off of his back. He also loved to laugh and make others laugh to lighten their load. One of his favorite jokes to tell people was, “How far can a dog run into the woods?” “Halfway, and then it’s running back out.” He was a very hardworking man and would do anything for his family.
The family will hold a small service at 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 19, at Epworth United Methodist Church, Wilmington.
Please make any memorial gifts, in lieu of flowers, to Epworth United Methodist Church, 408 Willard St., Wilmington, NC 28401; or the American Cancer Society.
