Merle Jordan Dennison Ferguson, 71, doting grandmother who loved baking for her family

BURGAW — Merle Jordan Dennison Ferguson, 71, passed unexpectedly from her earthly life to her eternal rest Sunday, June 28, 2020, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

She was born July 28, 1948, in St. Charles County, Maryland, to Laura Frances Bland McKoy. In addition to her mother, Merle was preceded in death by her daughter, Lisa Taylor Walker; daughter-in-law, Vicky Valade Jordan; and all of her grandparents.

Merle is survived by her husband of 23 years, William “Bill” Edward Ferguson; special great-niece, Kymber Jereczek; children, Kay Bradshaw, and her husband, Kevin, Rodney “Gilven” Jordan Jr., Daniel Jordan, and his wife, Margie, and Chris Jordan, and his wife, Lori; siblings, Terry Bland Sr., and his wife, Sheila, Keith Hinkle, and his wife, Connie, Teresa Sutton, and her husband, Paul, Sheila Reaves, and her husband, Charles, Rusty Brewer, and his wife, Patricia, and Martin “Marty” McKoy; 13 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Merle was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Most of all, Merle loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She loved baking and cooking for her family. She doted on all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought so much joy into her and Bill’s life. And she loved cruises! Merle’s presence in our lives will truly be missed.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 2, at Red Door Cemetery, Old Maple Hill Road, Burgaw. The Rev. William Hill Pearsall will officiate the service.
