Doris had a variety of jobs throughout her lifetime. She worked as a real estate assistant, a purchasing agent and stenographer, ending her career in 1979 as an accountant at the University of Lowell Research Foundation.

Doris and Edward established full-time residency in Venice, Florida, in 1997, after many years commuting as snowbirds.
