Edna Willoughby Pierce, 92, her light often served as a guide to others

Edna Willoughby Pierce

Edna Willoughby Pierce, 92, of Rocky Point, passed gently from her earthly life Wednesday, May 20, 2020, at her home.

She was born Feb. 16, 1928, in Edgecombe County, the daughter of the late Robert Hinton Willoughby and Lulu Victoria Larson Willoughby. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Louis Pierce; son, Robert Louis Pierce; and sisters, Alice Futrel, Ethel Dickens, Myrtle Radford, Jincy Seward, Ruth Shepard and Sally Mosley.

Edna is survived by her daughter, Sylvia “Sue” Willoughby; sons, Allen Pierce (Susie) and William “Bill” Pierce (Sharon); 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild soon to be born; sister, Frankie Little; and friends too numerous to count.

For over 40 years, Edna was a faithful member of Rocky Point Baptist Church, where she so generously shared her time and talents. Being active in her community, Edna sang with the Lamp Lighters, was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Rocky Point Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Pender County Extension and Community Association, more specifically, in the Silver Bells Extension Club in Rocky Point.

Edna was an extraordinary woman of God whose resounding faith and love for family was unmatched. Her brightly shining light often served as a guide to those around her. Those who knew Edna will always remember her passion for crafts, crocheting (making baby blankets for family as well as friends), quilting, cooking for those she loved and spending time with her beloved family. She was a true example of what it meant to be a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Her presence in our lives will be forever missed, but we find solace in knowing she is at peace and rejoicing with her almighty Father and family that has gone on before her.

Due to current restrictions in our country at this time, a memorial service will be held at a later date.
